IT Architecture

Planon’s IT architecture is based on a state of the art multi-tier structure. This architecture simplifies the deployment of Planon functionality within your organization, reduces IT overhead, allows efficient process and system integration, reduces risk, and finally reduces the total costs of ownership (TCO). The Planon architecture also allows external (Planon) hosting by taking all aspects like security, continuity and performance into account. This multi-tier architecture represents an important competitive advantage.

The overall Planon architecture is based on the following layers:

  • Database layer
The database layer represents the data repository, installed on a (virtual) database server. Planon supports multiple database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle and Microsoft SQLserver.

  • Application layer
Different from many other products, Planon’s architecture contains an application layer, installed on a (virtual) application server. The application layer contains all functional business logics, integrity checks, data evaluations, authorizations, etc. This disconnection from the database layer brings many advantages: it eases the technical and application maintenance, ensures stability and performance, eases Planon deployment, and offers re-use of application services for process integration with other IT systems (web services).

  • Presentation layer
The final presentation layer, the end user interface, represents the third tier in Planon’s architecture. This layer enables Planon to quickly and securely adopt new IT platforms and new user interfaces while drastically reducing your deployment- and maintenance costs. The presentation layer (Planon Client) is available in different user interfaces that can be combined within any Planon implementation:

The Planon architecture ensures maximum usability and scalability in regards to your IT infrastructure and your Planon implementation.
